ABOUT LOGAN

Professional

Logan has an extensive history of community building, involvement, and organization. Since becoming a resident of Lincoln in 2017, he has taken an active role in organizing his community, creating numerous social oriented groups to serve the needs of those around him by driving increased involvement, belonging, and activity in the community.

In 2017, upon moving to Lincoln, Logan found his calling and passion in working with youth in our community, and is currently the Director of an early childhood center in Lincoln.

Whether it has been in the course of volunteering as a Big through Big Brothers Big Sisters, running an after-school program, managing a Community Learning Center, serving as a Director of early childhood programs, or utilizing his personal time to organize the community, Logan has committed himself to improving our community through service.

Personal

Logan lives in the Near South neighborhood, with his wife, Katelyn, their son, Oliver, and their two cats, Billy and Happy.

He spends his free time reading, working on his home, enthusiastically supporting the Huskers, volunteering in the community, and going on bike rides - mostly to the children’s zoo - with his son.

Southeast Community College has played an important role in my growth as a father, husband, and leader. It was SCC that, after an incredible setback early in my education, gave me the opportunity to continue pursuing my education and make something of myself, in spite of my circumstances. It was at SCC that I met the love of my life, and my future wife, Katelyn, along with many great people and friends who played large parts in my growth as a person. It was at SCC that, time and time again, I found opportunities to better myself in a variety of different ways from collaborations that strengthened organizations I worked with, to education, to personal interests that furthered my curiosity. It was at SCC where, serving on the Beatrice campus Student Senate, I developed a passion for leadership that has led me to today.

Southeast Community College is a large factor in the man I am today, and I believe it is time I gave back through the one way I know how - service.

But it is about more than service.

There is power in who we see in leadership. When we look to leadership, we want to see ourselves reflected there. We want to know that our leaders, at one level or another, understand us. That, when they are tackling issues and solving problems, they are able to relate to our experiences and anticipate how said problems and solutions will impact our day to day lives.

I look at the SCC Board of Governors, and I do not see representation that reflects District 4 in that manner. On the current board of governors, only 2 of the 12 have stated on their official biographies that they ever attended SCC. The average age of the board of governors is 65 years. If I were on the board today, so far as can be told from publicly available information, I would be the youngest by 12 years, one of a small few who have ever attended SCC, and the only one to actually graduate from SCC.

There is importance in having well qualified, tenured individuals to lead an organization as complex as SCC. But, there is also an equal importance in having representatives that represent their constituents, and that balance on the board right now sits too far away from the day to day experiences of the residents of District 4.

I think it is time we have representatives that reflects the next generation. Representatives that understand the lives of the people they represent and the students whose education they provide oversight of. If elected to the Board of Governors, I will continue working as I always have to ensure that SCC is poised to continue making a positive difference in the lives of those it serves. I will strive to increase community voice and involvement in decision making. I will advocate that the transformative and life changing effects that education can have on a person’s life are continued to be made accessible to all who seek it, regardless of their condition. I will collaborate with my peers to keep SCC innovative and responsive in the face of the increasingly uncertain, dynamic, and ever changing economic, labor, and education environments.

Why Board of Governors?
